Vehicle stats and variety

What if vehicles had specific, changeable stats that engineers could influence when crafting them?
Top speed, Acceleration, (Handling), Cargo Item Slots, Weight Limit, Passenger Seats?
And I don't necessarily mean adding new vehicle items, but the engineers choosing this for each Steam Truck, Powered Cart, Truck, Tractor etc they craft?
Let's think about crafting a Steam Truck:
• Let's say you wanna have more top speed or more engine power, so a more powerful engine variant would be necessary (Portable Steam Engine that required more pistons & gears).
• Better Handling, so maybe there's an extra item required in the recipe (my car knowledge stops here, no idea what could influence that)
• More engine power would also affect the weight limit
• more advanced axles could also increase weight limit
• More cargo item slots requires more lumber (larger cargo hold), but would increase mass, possibly even allow less space for larger engines
• more passenger seats require more leather, probably add a second row of seats, and thus reduce cargo item slots
Higher engineering skills could also positively affect vehicle stats.
Overall, it would be nice if there was some distinguishing factors between all the vehicles, as it gives more flexibility to manufacturers:
• They could choose whether they wanna build cheap low performance vehicles, or expensive variants with better stats.
• Whether they build trucks with more space for cargo, or more space for larger engines.
• Whether they wanna build a truck with more seats, or more item slots.
• Whether they wanna build a truck with less cargo, but higher top speed
Right now we have 4 different vehicle types, but within the same type they are all exact clones of each other.
*this is partly inspired by the post about upcoming horses. Horses will presumably have different stats which affect their riding and transportation, so why shouldn't cars have different stats as well?
