Mark trees for felling
Trevor Dixon
Trees seem to grow at differing rates so I've taken to sampling trees to check their maturity. It would be great if we could mark which trees are suitable for felling. This would allow us to run through a plantation quickly marking trees then once the majority are ready, we could bring in the trucks, or outsource the work, as is done IRL. "Go fell all the marked trees in that forest".
The easiest way would be to add a right-click function to the Soil Sampler that paints a high-contrast band around the trunk around chest height. A more immersive way would be to remove tree sampling from the soil sampler, and add a new tool "Forestry tools" which incorporates tree sampling and a couple of cans of spray paint. Again, left-click to sample, right click to add or remove a mark.
Thanks for your consideration.

I think if it also automatically comes with authority settings as “anyone” can chop them then it’d be extremely helpful in specific niche ways.

I love the idea of a player being able to mark trees and then hiring a logger to take them down.

What do you think instead that new ways of setting boundary areas through Laws might be a way to handle this? Where you don't need to sample at all, but in designated Orchard or Forest boundary areas setup, that any mature tree in those areas would automatically get some kind of visual hint on it, without any user interaction needed?

Thad Guidry The more that a game does automatically, the less there is for the players to do. There's always a balance to be found, of course. I think inspecting trees and marking them for felling is interesting enough to not be a chore. Legal boundaries can then be left for property/resource rights. For small groups who don't want to worry about towns and laws, this would still be an interesting feature.
