I think a feature like "fog of war" or map fog would be a great addition to the game. Since players usually look at the map to find the "perfect" spot based on many parameters, this would make it more organic. Players coming in in day 3 or 4 or even later would have an advantage seeing places that are better than others already taken.

Here there are other features that could also be added to support "exploration" like a map that needs to be discovered and can be updated together.
